World Bee Day came about on the 20th December 2017, after three years of international efforts. UN members states unanimously approved Slovenia’s proposal to declare 20th May as world Bee day. One of the only times that there has been unanimous resolution at the UN.
The importance of bees in keeping our environment healthy and food security can’t be overstated. Bees biggest job is pollinating plants. And without them we would not be able to feed ourselves.
The beekeepers have long been undervalued but has always played Vital role. It has only been since Colony Collapse appeared close to 20 years ago that the world seriously took notice of bees and beekeeping.

In the last 20 years, there has been a great deal of scientific research on bees, diseases and pests impacting bee health. There has also been significant research on honey and other bee products that can help improve our health and wellbeing.
In Australia, there are around 1800 commercial beekeepers and 29,690 registered beekeepers.
